Existential-Relational Depth Psychotherapy

Existential-relational psychotherapy is about examining one's relationship to oneself, to others and to the greater world.  It is about dealing with the problems of being human:  that we have bodies and experience the limitations that come with having bodies;  that we want to make and have a sense of meaning in our lives;  that we have the awesome freedom and responsibility of making choices;  that we value and yearn for connection while also experiencing our separateness;  and that there is always more - to our inner lives, to our creativity, to what we do not yet know.

Whether you are considering therapy for a current life crisis or for a long-standing concern, depth psychotherapy can help you understand and change old patterns and beliefs that get in your way of living fully.  Because our wounds, our vulnerabilities, are shaped by early relationships, the primary place of healing is in the therapeutic encounter - between you and me.  We will work together in an atmosphere of trust and safety in order to allow your authentic self to emerge while examining your life concerns.

I see patients a minimum of once a week for a 50 minute hour.  Often we decide together that either 75 minute sessions or sessions more than once a week would provide exponential benefits.

Individual Depth Psychotherapy

I work with adults of all ages, diverse ethnicities and sexual orientations and in various stages of life - from young people just getting launched into the world to older people contemplating aging and end of life issues.  People often come to me because they are experiencing  a loss or an absence of a sense of meaning in their lives or are feeling a lack of authentic connection to others.  Here are some common concerns we may address:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • grief
  • life transitions
  • work
  • relationships and intimacy
  • creativity
  • diversity
  • life challenging illness
  • aging

Couples and Family Therapy

I work with heterosexual, lesbian, gay and queer couples and families, bringing humor and compassion, directness and gentleness.  I offer spaciousness and curiosity.  People often come to the office expressing difficulty with these issues:

  • communication
  • maintaining connection and intimacy
  • differences, including gender, ethnicity, religion, or class
  • life challenging illness
  • grief
  • parenting
  • blended families

I will meet you where you are, providing a safe space within which to explore your challenging or scary concerns.

Praying
It doesn't have to be
the blue iris, it could be
weeks in a vacant lot, or a few
small stones, just
pay attention, then patch
a few words together and don't try
to make them elaborate, this isn't
a contest but the doorway
into thanks, and a silence in which
another voice may speak.
